Founded in 1850, the
Slippery Noodle Inn is the oldest continually operated bar
that still remains in its original building in the state of
Indiana. The National Register of Historic Places has
listed the Slippery Noodle. Several activities have
occurred at the Slippery Noodle. It was a station for
the Underground Railroad during the Civil War. A
bordello was opened and remained until a murder transpired
over one of the women. During Prohibition, gangs used
the back of the building for target practice; in addition,
beer and liquor was distilled there, along with swine and
cattle butchering.
