Carmel High School
With more than four thousand students, Carmel High School (the only high school in Carmel) is one of the largest high schools in Indiana determine by enrollment. The first location of Carmel High School was built in 1887, the second site was built in 1923, and the third (and current) building was built in 1958. Since the third move, the school has received five renovations and expansions, with the Freshman Center as the most recent addition in 2005.
Carmel High School operates on a "block eight" schedule. Each class lasts 90 minutes and meets every other day. There are several clubs that excel competitively, such as the Orchestra, the Debate team, the Academic Super Bowl, and the Science Olympiad. There is a nationally recognized school newspaper, called the HiLite and yearbook, called the Pinnacle. CHS also has 20 sports programs that students can become involved in, like the Cross Country, Swimming and Diving, Soccer, and Tennis teams.
