Lucas Oil Stadium in the center of downtown Indianapolis is an enormous conglomeration of world-class stadium, viewing suites, and concert and convention space. Just a brief walk from numerous world-class Indianapolis hotels, upscale Indianapolis restaurants and some of the best shopping in Indianapolis, the stadium is appropriately located in the heart of the Circle City. The Stadium
With seating for 63,000 and a roof above it all that can be retracted to allow outdoor games, this is a fitting home for the champion NFL team, the Indianapolis Colts.
This super-facility was recently opened in 2008, so everything is basically brand-new. In the year 2012, it will be the locale for Super Bowl XLVI, a high honor indeed for such a young arena.
The Lucas Oil Stadium folks like to call their stadium “fan friendly,” but a better way of saying it might be “over-the-top opulent.” The infield surface that covers the playing field is a rubber, synthetic turf proven player-friendly since 1966, when it was installed in the Astrodome. There are seven state-of-the-art locker rooms, 137 suites, 11 indoor docks, club lounges, an operable north window, retractable seating on the sidelines, and much, much more.
The LOS seating area can easily be reduced from 63,000 to 41,000 simply by employing a house curtain that shuts off the seating for a whole level. In fact, the Lucas Oil Stadium boasts a seating reduction system unique to all other stadiums, which allows huge flexibility in the configuration of audience seating as well as the spectacle area. As an example, basketball, which only requires half the space, can be configured in the round, with seating from 15,000 to 70,000. Conventions and concert organizers can choose from several different configurations, indoors and outdoors. Some of the hottest music in Indianapolis is presented at this “athletic” stadium.
The facility is equipped with extra restrooms and concession stands, escalators and elevators, two pedestrian ramps, suites, lounges, exhibitions halls and plazas, and everything is top of the line.
The Bud Light Zone
Just on the northern edge of the Terrace Level, the Bud Light Zone is a 12,500 square foot area offering the best viewing in the house, including a stunning vista of the beautiful skyline of downtown Indianapolis.
The Lounges
There are two lounges, labeled the East and West Club Lounges. Perfect, practical and flexible, they lend themselves to usage for anything from corporate meetings to banquets. Each lounge incorporates 30,000 square feet containing upgraded concession areas and bars, many large HD TV’s, a video wall with its own sound system and dedicated restrooms.
The Lucas Oil Plaza
Located at street level on the north side of the stadium, this 30,000 square foot area is intended for large receptions and banquets. The Lucas Oil Plaza is an incredible gathering space with direct access to the event level and meeting rooms and a horseshoe-shaped stage in the center of all the action.
The Suites
Lease one of the 137 posh suites and see the game in style. Lucas Oil Stadium has lots of different types of suites to choose from, including the Quarterback Suite, which seats 200, the Field Level Suite, seating 21, the Super Suites, with seating for 24-36, and the Mini suites which seat eight. You can also rent the Quarterback Suite for one-time private parties.
The famous RCA Dome was demolished in 2008 to make room for the Indiana Convention Center. Originally called the “Hoosier Dome,” the RCA Dome offered the nation’s smallest NFL venue. Today the Indiana Convention Center and Lucas Oil Stadium are among the best Indianapolis sports venues, public gathering and special Indianapolis events spaces in the state of Indiana and across America. Past events at the Convention Center already make up a formidable list, including the 500 Festival Mini Marathon and the Indianapolis Auto Show.
